Re: The Birth of the Unicorn

Oddly enough, it is called Birth of the Unicorn, which is also the name of the short story submitted by the publisher of the book. It is a book of fantasy fiction with quite a spread of subject matter and styles. I would say anyone who likes the genre would find something in it to enjoy. As presentl...

The Birth of the Unicorn

Early this year, I was asked to submit a short story to Writer's Digest for consideration in a contest they were running. I won twelfth place in the contest, made my entry fee back, and was pleased with my experiment in literature. A month later, I was approached by an editor who had seen my work, a...

Re: Avatar - The Movie (and game)

I saw the preview for this movie last summer and it interested me, although I doubt I will find time to see it until the new year.

Still, I go to very few movies, so for one to interest me enough to plan ahead of time to watch it is unusual. I hope it will live up to the hype.

Re: Oblivion novel out now, who boughted it??

It has not shown up locally yet that I have seen, or at least none of the bookstores I have visited this week have carried it.

I likely will pick it up though when I run across it. Books based on computer games are not known for being great writing, but the familiarity makes up for some of that.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

My only complaint so far about Dragon Age: Origins is the amount of voiced text I have had to listen to. It makes the game more immersive and I cannot fault it, but out of the ten or so hours I have played the game in the last week, I think I have listened to six hours of talking.

Your computer is fairly close to mine in speed then, same amount of memory, and the video card is not much different, outside of my card's ability to heat small buildings. I have most settings on High (Ultra High reduces my frame rate to nothing if I get too many creatures on the screen).

My first time through, I skipped as many of the Gates as I could, but I was trying to play a different type of character the second time, so it would have been out of character to let Oblivion Gates exist. I did turn the difficulty down one notch whenever I entered an Oblivion Gate though after they...

It would be rather difficult to find a free game with the quality and upkeep of one of the pay as you go games. I have tried a couple of the free per month games and have seen a lot of complaints that their worlds are not being constantly enlarged and enriched in the manner of the pay per month game...

My viewpoint as well.

And welcome from an old Everquest player, still fairly active on Veeshan server. I tried world of warcraft, but found it too trivial to be worth my time and returned to EQ after a few days. Age of Conan is looking interesting at present, in spite of some late Beta issues that are still outstanding, ...

I looked at the petition, but since I really know very little about the area, I decided to do some research before making any conclusions. The issue is rather elaborate. I had to discount virtually everything I could find on the internet, since if it is written in the last five years, it is all bias...

Re: Oblivion Mod conflicts and load order notes

Wyre Bash isn't working for me because I somehow developed a problem with Vista, where I cannot or change (or even look at) the properties of files - when I click on properties - Windows explorer always crashes. This is the only problem that I've had with Vista, and I'm not willing to reinstall my ...

I play Settlers of Catan a couple times a month with a group of friends. We go fairly far into it though, using all but the space expansion and two copies of each of the other game modules to allow for huge worlds and up to ten players, or if we have only four or five playing, we can just use the ba...

Beyond the Fall of Night

It has been quite a year already, and another is now gone. http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/books/03/18/obit.clarke/index.html He was one of the greatest writers I ever read, and his ability to merge fiction and hard science, as the piece says, was his trademark. I have been reading his books all my ...

I saw that linked as a news report last night. It may sound a bit hard hearted, but it is just one of those childhood accidents. It is a tragedy, but I do not believe it was avoidable, even though so many posts I have run across seemed to treat it as some kind of enormous neglect on the part of the ...

My issues with Vista are fairly multiple, and remember that I am a Computer Consultant. I do not use Vista personally, since I will not slow my computer down that much, but I have installed it, troubleshot it, cursed at it, uninstalled and reinstalled it several times on client machines in hopes tha...

I have been gradually backing up my data to another hard drive this week and preparing for the format, but I am starting to think my video card may be having issues, which could easily cause problem switching from one application to another. In one fairly video intensive application, my video will o...

Tech Support

I am preparing for a drive format and OS reinstall at the moment, since I have been having some system problems for a couple of months now, but thought it might be interesting to gather some viewpoints here before I went to that resort. Perhaps someone would have an idea I have not tried yet and sav...

Yes, Planescape: Torment is another of my old favourites, although I never did finish it. It must have come out somewhere around the same time as Fallout and Fallout 2 did, since those seemed to be years I never could find a lot of time for longer computer games, although I do remember playing a lot...

What are the other RPG's you liked better? Cause I'd like to try out some new stuff sometime. (I just bought Morrowind with expension packs for 7 euros, it's quite a change from oblivion, but I like it thus far.) Most of the games I have enjoyed better are older, but caught my attention in the way ...

That often proves difficult to do. I had been playing Oblivion through for the second time, then started up Morrowind just to kill some time and have been happily playing that again for the five days since. It is all personal preference, but I still consider Morrowind the best computer RPG I have ev...

It all depends on how you want to play your character of the moment. I have played characters who took up the Katana because it seemed to fit who I was trying to play. I played a Knight character who would not have touched a Katana. A pure Two Handed sword was his goal (glass in the end). Another ch...

Many years ago in high school I played the Clarinet in a school band and Saxaphone in a Jazz band.

I took up singing in University and travelled for a year with a professional group.

These days, I play Bass Guitar and occasionally try to learn a bit more of how to play the Acoustic Guitar.

There is a seven in ten chance the satellite will fall into the ocean, but always the potential for damage. Evening

I am returned, now that I have found the place again. *g* As always, I am a somewhat older fellow from Canada. I have been a rather avid computer gamer since the 1970's, read and collect more books than I willingly admit to, and am often enough found up to my elbows in a computer, replacing, repairi...
