Fallout 3 and nVidia

Postby Nearco on Sat Oct 24, 2009 1:40 pm

Hi all!

I recently installed Fallout 3 and when getting out the 101 vault I got several Blue screen splash that indicates a nv4_disp.dll failure. I had a 9600GT, With driver totally updated.

Anyone has had the same problem? I haven't reinstalled Fallout since the format, so I could not try again with old drivers...

I haven't had that problem. Have you tried using nHancer?

I have information about the program and my own personal setting for FO3 HERE

I have had no problems with Fallout 3 and nVidia, both with my old 7950 GX 2 card or my present GTX 295 nVidia card. With the 7950 I was using the 190.38 drivers from the nVidia site, with the present card I am using the Gigabyte proprietary drivers.

I get the occasional Crash to Desktop, but I get that in Morrowind and Oblivion occasionally too and have had that issue with several video cards and system configurations, so consider it routine enough. I do not get a dll failure message though.

I'd try reducing the graphics settings. I don't know the specs of the system you're running on but it sounds like your lod or maybe aa settings are too high. I've had the same problem with C&C 3 when I have as many units as the game will allow and my graphics settings are at max.

I'm not positive; it's just a hunch.

I think this could be the problem, too high settings... But I only had this blue screen, I had good fps, no lag and any other problem... Don't know..

I think I will wait to get the GOTY edition that came out recently, it is a good christmas present:)

My PC is PIV 3,2 GHz with 2GB Ram and GF9600GT

Your computer is fairly close to mine in speed then, same amount of memory, and the video card is not much different, outside of my card's ability to heat small buildings. I have most settings on High (Ultra High reduces my frame rate to nothing if I get too many creatures on the screen).

I got GTX 295 and im experiance stuttering after i installed some texture packages, i think it could relate to my gfx card running out of memory or something.

Things got alot better after i downgraded to 180 serie drivers, now im experimenting with Fallout stutter remover to see if that helps.

But else the game runs great on my nvidia and i7 W 7 x64 system, not a single bluescreen.

I noticed the game heats up my gfx card more then other games i play, so maby some gfx cards could run too hot ?

Fixed some computers for my friends that got to much BSOD and weired artifacts in games, most of them was just to clean theyre card for dust etc then it was good to go.
